Hook 'em

Matthew gets to take a birthday snack to school tomorrow and he said he wanted to take cookies. So off I went in search of a cool cookie! Well I found these cool hand "hook 'em" cookies that were $2.25 each (Did I mentioned I needed 2 dozen for his class???) Then I found at another bakery these cool Longhorn heads that were $2.00 each. Finally, like I always say - I can do that!!!!!! So since I've never made cut out, iced cookies before, I shot for footballs colored Longhorn orange. After about 6 hours of mixing, cutting, baking, cooling, and decorating I came up with these .50 cent cookies. I have to pat myself on the back and say they are pretty good for my first try!!!! Oh, did I mention there were 100 cookies I made?!?!?!

Matthew's Allergic Reaction

This is what Matthew woke up to last Wednesday. He had came home from school with a very light rash and I thought it was his prickly heat again. Well, that wasn't it by the way he looked the next morning. It didn't itch, just covered his entire body. After a round of benedryl and steroids, he was fine. We still don't know what caused it, but hopefully it won't come back!!!

20 Year High School Reunion

We had a great time in Freeport this weekend - my 20 Year Brazosport High School Reunion. Now I'm officially old!
But.........we still know how to have a good time!!!!!
Kurt is still stunned from the whole event. He just can't figure out how it could be 20 years for some of us to have seen each other, yet we can talk and laugh like we saw each other yesterday. I keep telling him that it is because everyone I grew up with is amazing and I am so fortunate to have known these people in my life!!!!

Everyone at Trent Allen's restaurant "Talk About Good"

Sam's First Day of School - FINALLY

Sam finally started school on Tuesday! His preschool was delayed by two weeks because of construction delays. The new school is awesome. It seems like Sam always gets to do what Matthew did - now he gets to go to a new school that Matthew missed out on.

He had a great day & no problem with wanting to stay. I think it may be because he has the best teacher at Peace Lutheran Preschool - Ms. Mac!!!!

Family Photo

It's just a photo that we had to take because Matthew needed one for school, but it's not very often that we are all in the same picture. Or, at least I am in front of the lens!

New Park Downtown Austin

This is a new park downtown that we went to a few weekends ago.
They have a very cool sprinkler park for the kids.
I think it is so cool to go there, you get a great view of the Austin skyline.
We were quite entertained there - we saw a guy get a ticket because his dog was off his leash, another guy get into an argument with a bicycle cop because he got in trouble for riding his bike in an area he shouldn't (the cop was riding in the area too - but his argument was that he was there to enforce the laws - either way, you should argue with a cop that might have to give you a pump to the jail :) ), and also a naked kid. Not a naked kid because he was playing around in the water, a naked kid because the Mom thought that it was OK to just walk around naked! Only in Austin!!!!!

New Guest Bedroom

Almost forgot I took these pictures.
This is our new guest bedroom - the desk Kurt built out of the closet isn't finished yet - I'm in the process of painting, sanding, painting, sanding, painting, sanding...you get the idea.
So, all you out of towners - you have a room all to yourselves again!!! Just make sure you call first :)

Hide & Sleep

Sam woke me up Sunday morning "Where Matthew". I said in bed. Sam said "No, Mommy" I said "Yes, Sam". Then I proceeded to get up, make coffee, get the paper, sit down to drink & read - look under the coffee table and the left over fort from last night and I found Matthew. Once he woke up I found out he was also naked - he had an accident in the night, didn't wake me up and wondered up stairs until he found a place to sleep!!!

Sam's 2nd Gotcha Day

Sam got to pick out a new bear @ Build-A-Bear workshop for his 2nd Gotcha day!!
He picked the same bear as Matthew - but a different Hockey uniform!
The bears name....beary bear!!!
P.S. Yes, he is sporting yet another bruise on his head. Not sure if he fell off the bunk bed ladder or if he was pushed!

First Day of Kindergarten

Here is my big boy. Everything went so well. As soon as we got into his room, he said "Mommy, it's ok - I don't need you anymore." Well, there you go. He will be fine in Kindergarten. I was actually doing very well, until I got back into the car. His teacher, Mrs. McCord, gave us a wonderful poem about how we might be sad today, but she will love our child as her own. Well, you guessed it - water works. I didn't think that I was going to cry - until I read that poem. I hope this teacher doesn't make me cry all year!!!! Check out the last picture - do you think Sam missed Matthew? He did - we all did. All I can say was that the day was weird.

First Trophy

Can you remember being this happy with your first trophy? Matthew will. For 3 days he never left it out of his sight. On the couch, in the car, in bed. The trophy, Austin Roadrunner Hockey Mini-Mites 2006-2007 season.

Ice Storm '07

We have been stuck at home for 3 days and we are about to lose our minds. I know we usually don't go out everyday, but I think it is just the thought of knowing we CAN'T go anywhere. We have had some fun, and here is proof....

Hockey and Pirates

I'm pretty sure that the only things Matthew thinks about these days are hockey and pirates. The Hockey is a given - how can you not love hockey when your Daddy is Kurt. The pirates are a revisit from the past. He has several pirate figures, but Aunt Kim gave him a gift certificate to a toy store and he picked out this huge pirate ship - that floats and everything!!!! Here are some pictures of his favorite things to do lately.

Updates

So much has gone on since my last post....

Matthew's 5th birthday party. We had it a Inflatable Wonderland at Lakeline Mall. He had a great time. The only thing that went wrong was the cake. The place I ALWAYS go couldn't do it because they had too many weddings. So off I went to find a bakery that could do a kid's cake. Well, I had the hardest time. I didn't want to go to Lucy's because I've heard such bad things lately. All In One Bakery referred me to Russell's, who couldn't do it either because of weddings - what the hell - who knew October was a popular month for weddings. I finally found 620 Cafe & Bakery. Well the cake was crappy. First it looked like a 12 year old decorated it. Then when we cut into it, it didn't have a filling. I am so upset about the whole ordeal, I'm SERIOUSLY considering taking some cake decorating courses and learning how to make cakes for myself and anyone else who is upset about the bakery situation in Austin. Nevertheless, Matthew didn't realize anything was wrong - he had a great time.

Sam had his first school field trip to a pumpkin patch.

The boys found another use of corn dogs sticks, once the corn dog has been consumed.

Matthew got to skate at an Ice Bats game during the period. He was so cute. Can you say hockey players are cute? Well, he was. They skated for about 5 minutes and during that time he was able to break away to skate along the boards to wave at the crowd. Always the performer. This was the only picture I got because my batteries went dead. I did get video, which is way more important.

And of course, Halloween. First we carved pumpkins. That is way overrated. I had to dig everything out myself. The boys didn't want to touch any of the yucky stuff. But they loved helping me cut them out. Matthew had to have a scary face and Sam wanted a happy face.

Then, we had a Halloween parade and singing performance at school.

And Trick or Treating and hanging out with the neighbor's for our Annual Halloween Party. Our neighborhood is so hilly, everyone in the cul-de-sac and next door comes over to our house to pass out candy, drink, eat, and have fun hanging out. The boys had so much fun trick or treating. Sam figured out real quick what was going on and raced to each house, saying trick or treat as soon as we got to the driveway, then saying thank you all the way back to the street after he was given candy.

Ok, I'm up to date as much as I can at this point. I already have some more pictures in my camera, so hopefully, I'll get those out asap and get back to blogger on a more frequent basis. Since this post took me about an hour, I WILL post more often.
